Delta Air Lines announced a new benefit for Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum-level members as part of the Crossover Rewards program between SPG and Delta.

Henceforth, SPG Platinum-level elites traveling on Delta flights will be eligible for complimentary day-of-departure upgrades to Delta Comfort+, the airline’s premium economy light section, on paid tickets.

Previously, those members were only eligible for complimentary upgrades to first-class seats. Since the SPG elites only cleared on the day of departure and were at the bottom of the complimentary upgrade list, the chances of an upgrade were slim in most cases. The new option gives SPG Platinums a realistic chance to also receive a Comfort+ upgrade.

The new option is only available on paid tickets; award ticket holders are not eligible.

Starwood Preferred Guest is the guest loyalty program at Starwood Hotels and Resorts, which recently merged with Marriott International.
