Marriott International announced the opening of the Austin Marriott Downtown on Friday.
The 31-story property is intended to represent a new look for Marriott Hotels, the company said. The design takes inspiration from materials endemic to Austin, including limestone and Texas Cedar, and it was designed to support the needs for social distancing when meeting friends and colleagues.

Marriott to Offer Hotel Employees Incentive Pay for Getting Vaccinated

Marriott International said Friday it would offer employees at hotels in the United States and Canada under Marriott management an incentive for getting inoculated against the coronavirus.
The Vaccination Care Program will give each employee the equivalent of four hours of pay after getting vaccinated.
In addition to the incentive, the hotelier is educating employees on the benefits of vaccination and allowing employees flexibility in work hours to schedule appointments for inoculations.

Marriott International announced the appointment of Tony Capuano, a longtime veteran of the company, to the position of CEO.
The move follows the death last week of the hotelier’s third CEO, Arne Sorensen, from pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Capuano, who most recently was a group president responsible for leading Marriott’s global development, design efforts and operations, was also appointed to the company’s board.

Marriott Loses 78 Hotels to Sonesta in Multi-Million Dollar Default

Seventy-eight Marriott hotels have been reflagged as Sonesta International Hotels properties, the owner of the hotels, Service Properties Trust, announced Friday.
The action follows an $11 million default on payments to Service Properties Trust, which owns approximately 34% of Sonesta.
