With the launch of the next version of iOS 17, namely iOS 17.2, Apple will make sharing the contents of one’s Apple Wallet much easier.

Starting with 17.2, the Share feature in Apple Wallet will become more NameDrop-like and allow users to quickly share boarding passes, movie tickets, and other Wallet passes with another iPhone user.

To use the feature, both devices need to be on iOS 17.2 or higher, and think NameDrop (without the undeserved bad press that it’s received), to get the gist of how this will work.

Open the Wallet and tap on the ticket or pass to be shared. The sharing party holds the display of his iPhone a little over an inch (a few centimeters) from the top of the recipient’s iPhone or Apple Watch and a “Share” button will appear below the ticket or pass in the Wallet.  Tapping that button will send the item being shared to the other party.

Apple documents the new functionality in its release notes.

“AirDrop improvements including expanded contact sharing options and the ability to share boarding passes, movie tickets, and other eligible passes by bringing two iPhones together,” the company said.

Industry experts expect Apple to introduce iOS 17.2 in the coming week given that the company already released that version’s release candidate.
