ROAD WARRIOR SUPPORT

IMGP2085The glossy wooden desk provided more than enough space for me to work, and the comfortable albeit non-ergonomic leather chair was sufficient for my needs. Outlets, including two USB ports, to easily charge computers and portable devices, were located on the desk although I found the USB ports to be non-functional when I tried to charge my phone.

Select Guest loyalty program members receive complimentary three Mbps Wi-Fi Internet in the room, but for others it will cost $9.99 a day. A six Mbps plan is available for an additional charge of five dollars as well. The lobby, however, offers free Wi-Fi to all hotel guests, and with readily available comfortable seating, I opted to get some work done by the fireplace in the lounge.

Walking around the hotel, I found there to be no shortage of meeting and event space. Indeed, the hotel offers a total of over 80,000 square feet, including two ballrooms, the Broadway Ballroom, which provides 25,000 square feet and can accommodate 2,300 guests, and the 15,000 square foot Legends Ballroom, which can hold functions with up to 1,400 guests. Both ballrooms are located on the second floor and can be divided into smaller meeting areas. Over a dozen additional meeting rooms are located on the third floor, and the Acoustic, Electric, and Bass meeting rooms, all located on the fourth floor, offer 1,120 square feet each.

For bigger events, an additional 1.2 million square feet are available just across the street in the Music City Center, which I utilized during my time in Nashville for a Nissan Event.

WELLNESS

I expected an 800-room hotel to have a larger gym than the one I found, Yet when I poked my head in through the glass doors, I noticed that it was not in use. A long row of treadmills, elliptical machines, and bikes were stationed in front of floor-to-ceiling windows, which overlooked the Music City Center and admitted natural light. At the far end, a surprisingly well-equipped weight station provided views of the pool deck.

The outdoor deck, also deserted at 5 p.m., provided a large pool, a hot tub, and abundant seating as well as multiple cabanas. Omni’s signature Mokara Spa is located on the property as well.

DINING

Due to the jam-packed nature of my visit, I only had time to visit Barlines, one of the hotel’s many eateries. I sampled a few treats from the restaurant, where Tennessee whiskey and pub food are served and guests can enjoy live music seven days a week. I snacked on some freshly made potato chips alongside a variety of dips including guacamole, salsa, and a delicious onion dip, as well as some mini vegetarian samosas, all while enjoying the drawling intonations of a live country duo.

The hotel offers several other restaurants including Kitchen Notes, an all-day eatery, Bob’s Steak & Chop House, and Bongo Java, part of a coffee house chain.

BOTTOM LINE

While there are many hotels in the Nashville area, Omni is the newest on the block, and given its location, many amenities, and varied dining venues, it’s ideal for your next visit. Although brief, my stay there left me satisfied. A feeling that unfortunately isn’t engendered by every hotel visit.
