SilkAi, a full-service regional airline of Singapore Airlines, has finalized an order with Boeing for 23 Next-Generation 737-800s and 31 737 Max 8s. The order, worth $4.9 billion, is the largest order in the airline’s history.
Both aircraft feature Boeing Sky Interior, which includes new sculpted sidewalls, LED lighting, and larger overhead bins. The 737 Max uses CFM International LEAP-1B engines, and improves fuel use by 13 percent compared to today’s most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft.
SilkAir’s order brings the total number of orders for 737s ordered in 2012 to 1,031. The number marks the first time in history that a single-aisle jetliner has logged over 1,000 orders in a year.
