DSC_0114 (1)American Express’ Membership Rewards program announced a 40% bonus on points transfers to the British Airways Executive Club frequent flyer program.

Avios points are extremely cost effective when redeemed for short-haul flights on both American Airlines and British Airways, although the cost of an award flight will increase if there are multiple segments as the cost of a ticket with multiple segments is based on the combined cost of each individual segment. For example, based on a search conducted on July 17, 2017, a one-way ticket from London Heathrow to Munich Airport in coach costs only 4,500 Avios points plus $27.50 in fees, while a business-class fare for the same flight costs 9,000 points and $40. A flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Seattle Tacoma International Airport in coach on American Airlines costs 7,500 points and $5.60 in fees and the same flight in first class costs 15,000 points and $5.60.

Avios are the frequent flyer currency of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Level, and Flybe. Until November 2011, they were known as Air Miles.

The 40% bonus offer is in effect now and valid through September 17, 2017.
