American Express Offering 40% Bonus on Avios Transfers

American Express’ Membership Rewards program announced a 40% bonus on points transfers to both the British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus frequent flyer programs. Both programs use Avios as their currency.

American Express most recently offered a 40% bonus last September and has, in the past, offered as much as a 50% bonus.

The current offer is valid for transfers from Membership Rewards accounts from U.S.-based American Express accounts to British Airways Executive Club or Iberia Plus programs.

Avios points are extremely cost effective when redeemed for short-haul flights on both American Airlines and British Airways, although the cost of an award flight will increase if there are multiple segments as the cost of a ticket with multiple segments is based on the combined cost of each individual segment when booking via BA.

Avios are the frequent flyer currency of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, and Flybe. Until November 2011, they were known as Air Miles.

The 40% bonus offer is in effect now and valid through November 15, 2018.
