Officials of Hamad International Airport, also known as New Doha International Airport, said Wednesday that the airport is expected to open by the middle of this year.  When it opens, the airport will have a passenger terminal with an internal area of 6,458,436 square feet (600,000 square meters).

The terminal will have three concourses and 33 gates on opening day.  When the final phase of construction on the airport is complete, the terminal will have five concourses and 65 gates.

The terminal will also include 16 lounges, 28 art installations, over 100 food and beverage and retail outlets.  A transit hotel, pool, luxury spa, and squash courts will also be included.

The airport’s Airplane Maintenance Hangers will also feature the world’s widest free span door opening in the world.

The new airport and its surrounding Airport City will encompass 11 square miles (29 square kilometers).  Sixty percent of this will be on land reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf.
