Qatar Airways announced it will become a member of oneworld alliance on October 30 of this year.  The airline will become the only of three major carriers in the Gulf region to join an airline alliance.

Qatar will become a member of the alliance just one year after receiving its invitation to join.  The airline’s introduction into the alliance will be one of the fastest in oneworld’s history.

Once the carrier begins operating with oneworld, members of Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club will be able to earn and redeem miles on all other oneworld member airline flights.  In addition, oneworld alliance airline frequent flyer program members will be able to earn and redeem miles on all Qatar airways-operated flights.

US Airways will also join oneworld alliance in 2014, as part of the airline’s proposed merger with American Airlines.
