Apple Issues, Then Pulls Urgent ‘Rapid Security Response’ Update for iPhone, Mac
Apple, which on Monday released new Rapid Security Response updates for iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, and macOS Venture 13.4.1, pulled the software hours later.
The move was likely due to an issue that caused certain websites not to work after the RSRs were installed.
According to reports on multiple enthusiast forums, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Zoom, and other websites failed to work and issued warnings about not being supported on the Safari browser following the Rapid Security Response update. The updates changed the Safari user agent to include an (a), causing the sites to break.
The iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, and macOS Ventura 13.4.1 Rapid Security Response updates were said to have fixed a WebKit vulnerability that Apple says may have been actively exploited.
Users who have already upgraded to the RSR will be able to downgrade to the prior version. Apple is expected to rerelease the RSR once the issue has been fixed.
