JetBlue Airways said late Monday that it will begin to require all passengers to wear face coverings when flying.

“Wearing a face covering isn’t about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting those around you,” said Joanna Geraghty, the airline’s president, who added that “this is the new flying etiquette.”

The airline is asking passengers to keep a face covering on during the check-in and boarding processes, while in flight, and when exiting the aircraft.  Small children are exempt from the policy.

Meanwhile American Airlines said that it will hand out thousands of face masks and sanitizing wipes to passengers starting in May

Both flight attendants from American as well as from JetBlue will be required to wear masks as well, a policy Delta Air Lines is also implementing.
