Colgate-Palmolive and Oral-B parent Procter & Gamble announced new iPhone-connected smart toothbrushes at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Colgate announced the Plaqless Pro Smart Electric Toothbrush at the 2020 CES.  The new toothbrush features optical sensor technology that the manufacturer says can detect the presence of plaque on teeth so it can be removed while brushing.  The toothbrush will flash blue when a plaque buildup is found and white once that area has been sufficiently cleaned.

In addition, sensors in the Plaqless Pro create a map of the user’s mouth and the associated app will show which areas are clean and which need additional attention.

Saying it “introduces a new era in brushing,” the new Oral-B Io toothbrush uses a linear magnetic drive that distributes energy more efficiently to the tips of the bristles on a redesigned brushhead.  This results in a more even and quieter brushing session, the company said.

Neither company has announced pricing.  The Oral-B iO will be available in August.  At press time, Colgate has not yet announced when the Plaqless Pro will go on sale.
