IMG_3397The black boxes from the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 arrived in France Thursday for analysis.

The flight data and cockpit voice recorders were handed over to France’s air accident investigation agency for analysis that should reveal the cause of the crash.

A spokesman for the Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses pour la sécurité de l’aviation civile (Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety) told reporters that the first analysis was expected to take a couple of days, although the condition of the black boxes wasn’t yet known. “First we will try to read the data,” he said.

The black boxes store key data including flight parameters, engine sounds, instrumentation warnings, cockpit voice recordings, and other audio which investigators will use to help determine the cause of the crash.

What the investigators find will help determine how long the Boeing 737 Max jetliner will remain grounded across the globe.

The United States joined other regulators around the world in grounding the 737 Max, following the Sunday crash that killed 157.
