To the side of the protruding shower structure was a minibar with a black and white collage of D.C. landmarks above it, one of several in the room.  End tables flanking the bed had tabletop lamps on them, and power outlets were thoughtfully provided.

Back in the bathroom, the sink had a moveable tray-top table on one side, which provided hand towels and sanitary necessities.  Across the bathroom from the shower entrance was a large, standalone bathtub.  It looked so pristine and alluring in fact, that I, for the first time in years, decided to take a bath the next morning, something that was complemented nicely by the provided bubble-bath amenity.

Upon returning from a self-guided walking tour of the close-by National Mall (which is comprised of the United States Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial), I was pleased to find a bottle of wine on ice, a platter of cheese, crackers, and grapes, and a note welcoming me to the hotel.

ROAD WARRIOR SUPPORT

For workspace, the room provided a sleek and chic black desk located to the side of the bed, with a phone, lamp, and multiple easy-to-reach outlets.  The desk chair, a typical office type with height adjustment and wheels, was comfortable enough to engage in lengthy periods of work, and I was aided in this task by the complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access.  I did, however, take frequent, albeit brief, respites from my work by intermittently gazing out the large windows to admire the Washington scenery.

The Donovan House caters to small- to medium- sized business and social gatherings, as its two meeting rooms, the Woodward and Bernstein rooms (named for the journalists who uncovered and wrote about the Watergate scandal) can each accommodate up to 80 guests, or be combined into one larger room.  In addition, the hotel houses the Donovan Suite, which can host up to ten people for meetings, as well as a private dining room that can seat up to 50 guests in Zentan, the hotel’s restaurant.

WELLNESS

For the health-conscious, the Donovan House has a 24-hour fitness center complete with yoga mats, which are provided in each guestroom as well.  A pool is located on the rooftop, although it was closed due to the time of year.
