Most portable DVD players are rather unremarkable. DVD-LS86K The Panasonic DVD-LS86 distinguishes itself with a large 8.5” screen, extraordinary battery life (up to 13 hours according to the manufacturer), and expanded file support (MPEG3, MPEG4, WMA, MP3, and DivX not to mention DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and CD-R/RW discs).

This combination makes the DVD-LS86 the perfect companion for the business traveler even if the 13-hour battery life is a bit exaggerated (I managed to get 10 hours out of it but that’s still enough for two transcontinental flights).  The unit’s wide screen can be used as a monitor via the AV input and it has an output jack for playing DVDs on a larger display (cable included).

The DVD-LS86  comes with a car charger, convenient for use in aircraft as well and lacks only a remote control, which most lesser players provide.  Video quality is good and the viewing angle is adjustable to fit a variety of circumstances including business meetings.
