THE ROOM

The hotel has 410 rooms and suite, all with floor-to-ceiling windows that let the city in. My one-bedroom suite was open and airy with an elegant minimalist design.

The hotel overlooks Monserrate, a sacred hill that dominates the city’s center and rises to 10,341’ (3,152 m) above sea level (the city itself averages an elevation of 8,660’ or 2,640 m). At the very top there is a 17th century church – El Señor Caído(“The Fallen Lord”) – and many guest rooms have a good view of it.

The rooms in the suite were elegantly appointed and featured an earth-tone décor that was inviting.  The bedroom, about the size one would expect for a large guest room, offered excellent closet space and an easily adjustable thermostat.  Room amenities included a 50” flatscreen television, a coffee maker, and an iron and ironing board. The living room featured a large sofa, several chairs, a white marble coffee table on which I found some lovely welcome amenities including a chocolate sculpture, and a separate dining area with a table that could seat five comfortably.

Behind the dining room table was a pantry area with glasses and cups, as well as a coffee maker and supplies of coffee and tea.

The marble bathroom was quite large and featured a separate toilet. The spacious walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head provided a relaxing albeit relatively brief escape from the chaos of the city.

ROAD WARRIOR SUPPORT

A generously sized writing desk was in the bedroom in front of one of the windows and featured easy access to electrical outlets, although they were all used (I unplugged the cordless phone on the desk in order to plug in my laptop). That said, I found it to be a very pleasant setting in which to do work.
