Marriott’s Moxy Hotels unit will expand into 40 new cities in Europe with a total of 50 properties.

The hotelier describes the brand as being “fun, edgy, and social, all with a youthful spirit.”

Most of the hotels will open in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavia, although Moxy will also open hotels in France, the Netherlands, Georgia, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, and Switzerland.

Moxy seeks out unusual buildings – it cites a spice warehouse, an historic office building, and a vodka factory in its portfolio – and seeks to turn them into “a stylish, disruptive hotel experience.”

Germany, which already has nine Moxy hotels, will see an additional 16 open by the end of 2019, including cities such as Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich.

The United Kingdom will get five new Moxy properties by the end of 2018, including hotels in Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, and Southampton, following the recent openings of the Moxy London Excel and the Moxy London Stratford.

Scandinavia will see new Moxy hotels in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Stavanger, Norway, following the debut of the Moxy Oslo X.
