IMG_2478American Express announced that it acquired app maker Mezi and its eponymously-named travel assistance app that helps plan and book trips.

Travelers can use the app to request flights, hotels, or restaurant reservations.

The Mezi app uses artificial intelligence to personalize travel and booking experience by learning users’ preferences requests, and thus becomes smarter and more efficient with each use.

“Mezi’s AI-powered experience opens up exciting new ways for us to connect with and serve our Card Members and creates opportunities for us to build more meaningful relationships with them,” said Phil Norman, vice president of American Express Digital Labs.

Mezi will become a wholly owned subsidiary of American Express, and will continue to develop its own technologies and services. Mezi’s co-founders will continue to head the company but will report to Mr. Norman.
