American Airlines Flight From Hong Kong Cancelled After Cargo Catches Fire

An American Airlines flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles was canceled Monday after fire broke out next to the aircraft while the plane was parked at the gate.

A piece of loading equipment ignited while in the process of loading cargo into the hold of the aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, the airline said in a statement. One person, the equipment operator was injured.

The incident took place at approximately 5 p.m. local time. The container that was being loaded also caught fire, the airline said.

As a result, American Airlines Flight 192, which was scheduled to depart at 6:10 p.m., was canceled and passengers were rebooked on other flights. No passengers or crew were on the plane at the time of the incident and no other injuries were reported.
