Japan Airlines announced it will introduce new dishes for premium economy- and economy-class passengers on select flights between Tokyo and various North American and European destinations beginning June 1.

The new menu items will include Tapien, a pork and chicken soup with vermicelli made from mung beans and served with grilled rice balls, as well as custard cake for dessert.  The dishes will be offered as a second meal service.

In addition to the new food selections, Japan Airlines will provide passengers with six different specially designed tray mats, featuring images and designs of Kumamon, the bear-like mascot of Kumamoto, the Japanese prefecture where the dishes originated from.

The new items will be available June 1 through August 31, on flights from Tokyo Narita to New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Paris, Frankfurt, and Helsinki, as well as on flights from Tokyo Haneda to Paris and London.
