Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announced it will open a new property in Lhasa, Tibet, on April 17.  Encircled by the Himalayan Mountains, the Shangri-La Hotel, Tibet will be within walking distance of the Potala and Norbulingka Palaces.

The hotel will have 289 rooms, including 10 long-stay apartments.  Rooms will offer complimentary Wi-Fi access, and will feature neutral colors accented with earthy reds, deep blues, and vibrant greens.

In addition, rooms will be stocked with authentic sweet tea served in Tibetian pots, and turndown gifts such as hand-woven pouches. Rooms will also be adorned with traditional Himalayan characteristics, such as turquoise stone, decorative metals, floral patterns, and auspicious symbols will be incorporated into the contemporary design.

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Shambala, will offer lounge, indoor, and outdoor dining, and will serve authentic Tibetan cuisine, including signature dishes such as Roasted Lamb Ribs marinated in Tibetan yogurt, and Baked Bacon wrapped in Tibetan cheese.  In addition, the hotel’s all-day dining establishment, Altitude, will offer international cuisine, while Shang Palace will feature authentic Cantonese and Sichuan specialties.

The property will also be equipped with various meeting and event spaces, including a 13,078 square foot (1,215 square meter) Grand Ballroom.
