Choosing a hotel in New York is as easy as finding a needle in a haystack.Bildschirmfoto 2013-06-09 um 12.21 Hundreds of properties distinguish themselves from each other by their location, style, and amenities. Yet, the Paramount wins on all three accounts and can reach business and leisure travelers primarily by being just steps from Times Square. Housed in a newly renovated historic building, this unassuming boutique hotel is packed with both style and substance.

Bellmen swing open the glass doors to reveal a dim and high-ceilinged lobby where staffers roam with iPads to answer questions and assist with any lines at reception. Guests make themselves comfortable in cushioned seating areas scattered about the lobby while using the free wireless Internet signal available to all in public areas. I arrived on foot from the nearest subway station to be greeted by smiling staff . They chatted with guests waiting in the short line for check-in asking about their plans in the city, offering suggestions, and exhibiting true hospitality. I felt welcome from the moment that I arrived.

THE ROOM

Paramount room 2Rising in one of the many gold-plated elevators to guest rooms, arrivals unload onto carpeted hallways that are fronted with large mirrors facing the elevators. These mirrors feature unique, illuminated weather-forecasting signs that tell if it is cloudy, sunny, or overcast outside.

Guest rooms benefited from the recent makeover. Looking exceptionally fresh, the rooms vary in size with corner rooms offering extra space. All have plush king size beds with soft duvet bedding, piles of large pillows, and electrical outlets on either side of the bed. Closets are large enough to store a week’s worth of clothing.

White tiled bathrooms are bright with excellent lighting and white cotton towels are stuffed on shelves behind the large mirrors. Stainless steel pedestal sinks are startlingly minimalist. Showers feature environmentally friendly heads and curved shower rods expand the bathing space. Pleasantly scented toiletries aren’t of any notably recognizable brand.
