Excelsior Hotel Ernst, Cologne, Germany – Review
DINING
Breakfast at the Excelsior is nothing short of sumptuous.
The rolls, breads, and croissant were excellent, as were the egg dishes I ordered off the menu. The second morning of my stay, the waitress remembered my fondness for carrot juice with a splash of apple juice and brought it to the table without my having to say a word.
While on earlier visits I had dined at the Hanse Stube restaurant several times with my father, I did not have an opportunity to eat there on this trip. The menu is still French influenced cuisine and I have fond memories from past dining experiences. Both lunch and dinner are served.
BOTTOM LINE
While the Excelsior Hotel Ernst harkens to a bygone era of luxury and style, it is very much a twenty-first century hotel and is the perfect spot for the business traveler visiting Cologne.
A combination of extremely heartfelt and authentic hospitality combined with a staff that seems to be able to anticipate guests’ needs before they voice them made for a very pleasant visit and I hope my travels take me back to Cologne soon so I can enjoy the Excelsior once again.
