Bayerischer Hof Lindau Review
The historic city of Lindau is located on a small (0.68-square-kilometer/0.26-square-mile) island in the Bodensee, or Lake Constance, and is connected to the mainland by a causeway and railway. 
The Bayerischer Hof, prominently located on the promenade facing the lake, is close to the epicenter of activity in this medieval city.
WHERE IS IT?
Lindau is at the common border of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, along the Pfänder Mountains. Its harbor, casino, historic buildings, and water and mountain views make it popular with visitors.
The Bayerischer Hof is at the heart of the town and is minutes from such attractions as the Lindau Harbor (the 33 m climb to the top of the lighthouse is worth it for great views), the 16th century Pulverturm (literally, powder tower) that was part of the city’s defensive wall, the 13th century Mangturm (built as a lighthouse), the Stadtmuseum (city museum) Lindau, and the Altes Rathaus (old city hall).
Whether you are sitting at the hotel’s outdoor café or in a guest room, the views looking out at Austria and Switzerland are superb.
ROOMS
The first room I was shown to had a single bed and I immediately asked for something larger. I was immediately ushered to a very nice and much larger room. Unfortunately, the housekeeper had left the windows open and the room was freezing and the radiator wouldn’t warm it up despite some tinkering by the hotel’s engineer. My third room was warm, large, and comfortable. The bed was quite comfortable and the view of the harbor was superb (see above photo, taken from room).
ROAD WARRIOR
The desk in the room was generously sized for work and electrical outlets were conveniently above the desk on the wall. The wooden chair was not designed for desk work, however; fortunately, I had relatively little work that required sitting in front of the computer during my stay there.
The hotel had just converted to a new Internet system that, on paper, sounded great. The first hour would be free and an additional hour cost €4.It didn’t work (at all) but the old system was still in place and the front desk manager gave me several one-hour vouchers at no charge.
DINING
Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant should not be missed. Service was friendly and the menu concentrated offered local delicacies including many fish dishes that were expertly prepared and accompanied by German and Austrian wines.
The attractive and tasty breakfast buffet consisted of a nice assortment of cold cuts, cheese, 
muesli, fruit, fresh-baked rolls and pastries as well as warm items such as scrambled eggs and bacon.
VERDICT
Despite a drafty room and dysfunctional Internet, the hotel staff did its utmost to not only overcome these obstacles but ensure my comfort and turned what could have been an unpleasant experience into a brief footnote. I look forward to my next visit.
