Delta Cuts 40% of Capacity as Demand Falls Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Delta Air Lines announced drastic cuts to its flying schedule by up to 40%, citing significantly lower demand due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The news was announced in a memorandum to employees.
“The speed of the demand fall-off is unlike anything we’ve seen – and we’ve seen a lot in our business,” the airline’s CEO, Ed Bastian, wrote.

British airline Flybe, the Europe’s largest regional carrier, shut down abruptly in the early hours of Thursday morning, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

A number of lawmakers in the United Kingdom are calling for Chancellor Rishi Sunak to reduce the country’s air departure tax.
Forty-two members of Parliament, including 27 Tories and three peers, wrote to Mr. Sunak urging him “to take decisive action to cut the APD by at least 50%.”
