United Airlines Reports $2.4 Billion Loss for Q1

United Airlines announced financial results for first quarter of 2021.
The airline posted$2.4 billion adjusted net loss for the first quarter, on revenue of $3.2 billion, down 66% year-over-year. United cited higher fuel costs and continued weak demand amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re poised to emerge from this pandemic with a future that is brighter than ever,” said Scott Kirby, the airline’s CEO.

United Airlines to Partner with Customers to Finance Fuel from Trash with New ‘Eco-Skies Alliance’

United Airlines said it would partner with a number of global companies including Siemens and Nike to finance the use of low-carbon, sustainable aviation fuel derived from trash, creating a new program called the Eco-Skies Alliance.
The Chicago-based airline plans to purchase 3.4 million gallons (12.8 million liters) of such fuel this year, tripling the amount of sustainable fuel it has used on an annual basis since 2016.

United Airlines became the first of the major U.S. airlines to start to hire new pilots, according to an internal e-mail.
