United to Fly Planes Using Renewable Biofuel

United Airlines said it will begin to use low-carbon, renewable jet fuel for some flights departing Los Angeles International Airport starting in 2014.  The move comes with the announcement that it will purchase 15 million gallons of renewable jet fuel from AltAir, an alternative fuel company, over a three-year period.  United also has an option to purchase more fuel if it wishes.

United Airlines announced that it will offer subscription options for passengers that give them access to Economy Plus seating and/or pre-paid checked baggage charges for one year.  In addition, the airline said that customers can now use their MileagePlus miles to purchase an annual United Club membership.

United Opens New Club Lounge at Seattle-Tacoma

United Airlines announced the opening of its new United Club lounge in Concourse A of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.  The lounge is the second to feature United’s new design concept.
At 6,096 square feet (566 square meters), the lounge features a new interior, which offers views of the Cascade Mountains, as well as a refurbished bar.  The area also offers additional workstations and power outlets.

United Airlines said it had reached a milestone in retrofitting its long-haul, international aircraft that fly out of New York airports.
