United Orders 35 Airbus A350-1000 Jets

On the heels of the launch of the Airbus A350 at the Paris Air Show, United Airlines announced it was converting its recently announced order for 25 A350-900s into A350-1000s and adding ten additional firm orders for that plane, for a total of 35.
United said it was using the aircraft to replace older, less efficient planes.  Deliveries of the A350-1000s are expected to start in 2018.

United Airlines Adds New Requirements for Premier Status

United Airlines announced changes to the Premier qualification requirements of its MileagePlus frequent flyer program.  The changes, which go into effect on January 1, 2014 for the 2015 calendar year, introduce a new and additional qualification, Premier qualifying dollars (PQDs).
MileagePlus members will need to meet a minimum spend level in order to qualify for Premier status.  The number of PQDs will be based on the price of the tickets purchased …

United 787 Dreamliner Diverts After Mechanical Problem

A United Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for Tokyo was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, after its pilots were alerted to a problem with the airliner’s oil filter.
Flight 139 had departed Denver and was over Vancouver when it turned back towards Seattle and landed safely shortly thereafter. The 200 passengers on board are being accommodated in Seattle and will be bound for Tokyo on Wednesday.

Boeing Launches 787-10 Dreamliner with $30 Billion in Orders

Boeing announced the launch of the 787-10 Dreamliner, the third member of the 787 family, on Monday at the Paris Air Show.  Five airlines placed orders for a total of 102 new aircraft.
