Broadway theaters are cancelling their evening performances as the forecast for New York City becomes more grim. The Big Apple is currently under a blizzard warning with up to 2’ (61 cm) expected when the storm departs the region some time on Monday.

The National Weather Service has forecast “impossible travel conditions” as a result of the storm.

“A major winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast that may cause impossible travel conditions and power outages,” the NWS said in a Sunday morning weather statement. “Blizzard conditions are possible along coastal areas from the DelMarVa Peninsula through southeastern New England.”

Given warnings of whiteout conditions and with officials urging New Yorkers to limit travel during the snowstorm, the Broadway League announced that all Sunday evening shows are cancelled, including the final performance of the original Broadway cast of “Operation Mincemeat.”
