United Airlines announced that its executive vice president and chief financial officer, company veteran Gerald Laderman, will retire in 2024.

The planned change in status was disclosed in a corporate filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday.

The Chicago-based airline said it plans to conduct a “thorough external search” for its next CFO.  Once the new CFO is appointed, Mr. Laderman will serve as executive vice president of finance until his expected retirement in September 2024.

“It’s an understatement to say that he has had an indelible impact on our company and our industry,” said the airline’s CEO, Scott Kirby, referring to Mr. Laderman, adding that “[H]e will be missed by me and everyone who has the honor of working with Gerry all these years.”

Mr. Laderman has been with the airline for over 35 years, having begun his career with Continental Airlines, which combined with United in a merger of equals in 2010.  He remained with the merged entity, United Continental Holdings, after the deal closed and has been responsible for negotiating major orders for new aircraft with both Boeing and Airbus.
