Broadway Theaters to Continue Mask Mandates Through At Least June, Some to Continue to Also Require Vaccine Passports

Broadway theaters will continue to require that all theatergoers are masked in order to gain entry, owners and operators of the 41 Broadway houses said Friday.

The Broadway League, the group that represents theater owners, said that the policy would remain in force until at least June 30, 2022.

Masks must remain in place, covering the mouth and nose, at all times in the theater, except when briefly drinking a beverage.  Broadway theaters employ Covid safety officers who enforce the mask requirement.

The action will continue through June a policy first announced at the end of July 2021 that originally required theatergoers to have proof of fully vaccinated status via a CDC or WHO vaccination card showing an FDA or WHO approved vaccine as well as a government-issued photo ID.

A limited number of theaters continue to require proof of vaccination for entry while most  do not.

The vaccination policy is, however, in effect for all performers, theater staff, and backstage crew.

The League previously said that theater owners are “monitoring the science” and on Friday said that masking protocols beyond June 30 of this year will be announced next month.
