Hilton Worldwide announced the reopening of the Hotel Tahiti as the Hilton Hotel Tahiti on Monday.

The property is located in French Polynesia’s capital, Pape’ete, the country’s center of government and economic activity, which lies on the northwest coast of Tahiti.  The city is known for tall palms and abundant flowers, and its well-situated harbor made it a center of trade by the 1830s.

Located on the city’s waterfront, the 200-key hotel originally opened in 1960 on land that had been part of the Tahitian royal family’s estate.  It reopens following a major refurbishment with 171 new guest rooms of featuring rich woods and light colors to complement the sand and water.  There are in addition 29 suites, a figure that includes two Royal Suites.

Guest amenities include a swimming pool that overlooks Morea Island, a fitness center and spa, and an executive lounge.

Dining options include the Asian, offering Southeast Asian cuisine; Moevai, which offers traditional Tahitian fare, and the Taitea Brasserie, which serves fish and steak dishes.  This is in addition to the hotel’s two bars, the Heiva Lounge in the open-air lobby and Vaipuna, a poolside bar.

The hotel is located five minutes from Faaa International Airport, the city center, and the harbor, the latter with cruise ships, ferries, yachts, and cargo ships in port.
