United Airlines said Thursday it plans to operate its busiest domestic schedule since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in order to meet what it termed a “surge in holiday travel” in December.

The airline said it expects its busiest travel days to be November 24 and 28 for Thanksgiving, and December 23, 2021 and January 2, 2022 for travel during the unofficial winter break period.

“We’re seeing a lot of pent-up demand in our data and are offering a December schedule that centers on the two things people want most for the holidays: warm sunshine and fresh snow,” said Ankit Gupta, the airline’s vice president of network planning.

The Chicago-based carrier will offer some 3,500 domestic flights on a daily basis, with a focus on connecting the Midwest with warm weather cities such as Las Vegas and Orlando. In addition, the airline will operate 70 flights each day to ski destinations including new service linking Orange County with Aspen.
