Southwest Airlines announced plans to launch nine new non-stop routes to and from Austin next year.

The flights are timed to start right before the spring break travel season.

The Dallas-based carrier will launch daily non-stop service linking Austin with Amarillo and Midland, Texas; Charleston, South Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; and Ontario, California on March 10, 2022.

On March 12, Southwest will introduce service connecting Austin with Puerto Vallarta Mexico, as well as seasonal weekly service to Panama City, Florida; Sarasota; and Destin/Fort Walton Beach.

The airline began service to and from Austin 44 years ago, it said.

“This is the largest single growth in Austin that we’ve ever had in that 44-year history,” said David Harvey, a vice president at the airline. “When you think about all the residents, the population growth and then what’s going on with the corporate climate where you have people opening new offices and moving their headquarters to Austin, the demand is there.”
