American Airlines announced a code-sharing agreement with IndiGo, India’s largest airline.

The move comes as American is planning to launch non-stop service from the United States to India.

Under the new codeshare agreement, American will be able to place its code on 29 domestic IndiGo routes.

IndiGo, which was founded in 2006, is the country’s largest by both passengers carried and fleet size.  It had a 59.24% domestic market share as of August 2020.

Aside from 29 ATR turboprop aircraft, IndiGo maintains an all-Airbus fleet of 245 A320-family airliners.

The agreement requires approval by U.S. and Indian regulatory authorities, American said in a statement.
