Delta Air Lines said it plans to double the number flight attendants it will hire to have in place prior to the summer 2022 travel season.

The Atlanta-based carrier had planned to hire 1,500 but now plans to double that number.

Many workers at Delta and other major airlines took early retirement packages earlier in the pandemic, often taking advantage of favorable buyouts.

Delta is not the only airline on a hiring frenzy, however.

Southwest Airlines and other carriers resumed hiring as the summer travel season began to take off.  They need to not only fill cabin crew positions but also gate agents, ramp agents, customers service representatives, and pilots.

On Monday, Southwest CEO Gary Kelly told employees that the airline has hired 1,500 people and plans to add an additional 3,700 employees by the end of November.
