Philadelphia is also a great walking city and there are dozens if not hundreds of interesting sites and destinations within a 45-minute walk.  Among them are the Reading Market, the historic Old City, and too many world-class museums and galleries to count.

DINING

I would strongly recommend having breakfast at least once at the Wayward, the hotel’s excellent restaurant. While it doesn’t offer scrapple, a Philly standard that is a slice of a pork loaf thickened with cornmeal, spiced with sage and pepper, and then fried, the potatoes accompanied by rather satisfying scrambled eggs were nothing short of divine, and the foodie waitress didn’t hesitate to tell me how she studied the chef preparing them and now makes them at home as well.

The Wayward also serves lunch and dinner but the thriving culinary scene in Philadelphia is such that I didn’t get a chance to dine there in the evening.

BOTTOM LINE

Friends have sung the virtues of Hilton’s Canopy hotels since the first one opened in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2016. “No two Canopy hotels will be the same,” Hilton said in announcing the brand, yet they share characteristics which I found to be in evidence here, namely great neighborhoods, local art, great comfort and design, and more included value.
