Delta Air Lines announced it would extend the current elite status of SkyMiles members into early 2023, a move that echoes one it made in 2020 amidst the coronavirus pandemic-induced plummet in travel.

In a letter to members of the SkyMiles program with Medallion Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond level status, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said, “Your loyalty to Delta has never been more important, and we’re committed to earning it as we move into the recovery and beyond.”

Bastian also said that the airline will extend upgrade certificates until January 31, 2023.

Last year, the airline also extended Sky Club memberships by six months past the expiration date. It also said at the time it would roll over all Medallion Qualification Miles used for earning status into 2021 to qualify for 2022 status.

Delta’s competitors, American Airlines and United Airlines, took similar moves last year amidst the downturn in travel. Neither has announced any intention to follow Delta’s lead in extending elite status, however.
