An “unprecedented” heat wave will bring temperatures in the Pacific Northwest into the triple digits, giving residents of Seattle a taste of Las Vegas weather.

“Unprecedented heat will not only threaten the health of residents in the Inland Northwest but will make our region increasingly vulnerable to wildfires and intensify the impacts our ongoing drought,” the National Weather Service office in Spokane said in a statement.

The sentiment was echoed by statements from NWS offices in Seattle and Portland.

Over 13 million people in northern California, as well as much of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho are under excessive heat warnings. Temperatures as high as 114° F (45.5° C) are possible in these areas as well as in British Columbia and Alberta.

The heat poses the threat of heat-related illness, according to the National Weather Service.
