McDonald’s, which started testing its new loyalty program in several parts of the country including Arizona, Nevada, and New England last year, has begun to roll it out to customers in New York City.

The program, MyMcDonald’s Rewards, allows members to earn 100 points for every dollar spent and the restaurant chain will also offer targeted promotions under which members can earn double points.

“MyMcDonald’s Rewards is finally here,” an e-mail sent by McDonald’s to customers in New York City and viewed by Frequent Business Traveler said.

The program will expand nationally in the United States throughout the second half of 2021, the company’s CEO, Chris Kempczinski, said at the BernsteinStrategic Decisions Conference earlier this month.

“We’ve been really pleased with what we’ve seen in Phoenix and New England where we’ve tested it,” he said.

MyMcDonald’s Rewards has four tiers, namely 1,500, 3,000, 4,500, and 6,00 points – that allow redemption opportunities for 16 menu items.  New member will receive 1,500 points, which will allow them to select from a choice of hash brown potatoes, a cheeseburger, a McChicken sandwich, or a vanilla ice cream cone after their first purchase.

Members who reach 3,000 points receive a choice of a medium-size order of French fries, a sausage burrito, a six-piece Chicken McNuggets order, or a large iced coffee. At 4,500 points the choices include a large order of French fries, a frappe, a Filet-O-Fish sandwich, or a Sausage McMuffin with Egg. Finally, at the 6,000-point level, members have a choice of a Big Mac, a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, a Happy Meal, or a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit.

The platform will reportedly bring greater personalization to the purchase experience at a McDonald’s. McDonald’s workers will be required to greet members by name and members will receive a personalized e-mail after picking up an order that includes information about forthcoming deals that are applicable to the member.
