As of Tuesday morning, the world has recorded over 174.4 million Covid-19 cases and has seen more than 3.75 million deaths, according to Worldometer, a service that tracks such information. In addition, over 157.7 million people worldwide have recovered from the virus.

Since the start of vaccinations at the end of last year, over 2.18 billion doses have been administered across the globe as of Tuesday morning, the equivalent of over 27.5 doses for every 100 people.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that, as of Tuesday, 171.3 million people in the United States –or 51.6% – have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Of that population, 42.1%, or 139.7 million people, are fully vaccinated, bringing the total number of doses dispensed in the United States to over 302.8 million. Breaking this down further, approximately 63.7% of the population over the age of 18 – or 164.3 million people – has received at least a first inoculation and 53% of the same group –or 136.7 million people – is fully vaccinated.

A classified report that was drafted last year by the Trump Administration warns that SARS-CoV-2 might have leaked from a lab in Wuhan. The report, prepared by researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in May 2020, found it was possible that the coronavirus may have leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.  Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence agencies give credence to two possible scenarios, the aforementioned as well as the possibility that the virus emerged from human contact with an animal that had the virus.
