American Express announced the opening of a new Centurion Lounge at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Monday.

The lounge, replacing one had originally opened in 2014 and that was closed amidst the coronavirus pandemic-induced downturn in travel as well as the demolition of the terminal building it was in, is twice the size of the original one and located airside one level above security, immediately before the Eastern Concourse pedestrian bridge.

The space “embodies some of New York City’s most unique experiences,” said the company’s vice president for loyalty travel experiences, Pablo Rivero.

The design of the space is “reflective of the city’s playful culture,” the company said in a statement, and incorporates “arched shapes” in the dining room that reference the architecture in downtown Manhattan including its bridges.

The space features a “study” area designed in partnership with an independent bookshop, McNally Jackson Books, that is intended to deliver “a library-esque ambiance.” In addition, the lounge offers workspaces, a family room, and private phone rooms feature decorated with murals. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the lounge.

Travelers will enjoy a variety of presentations from a breakfast menu that includes “crispy” French toast and a dinner menu with fried chicken with honey lemongrass glaze and Soup Jamur, a mushroom soup with shiitake and oyster mushrooms, makrut lime, and Thai basil.  The menu will have several vegetarian and vegan options including roasted cauliflower with red curry sauce, coconut, and sunflower seeds.

Chef Cédric Vongerichten, owner of the Indonesian restaurant Wayan in New York City, will continue at the helm of the kitchen.

The lounge will also offer travelers a variety of drinks. The beverage menu ranges from Coffee from Brooklyn Roasting, and New York-themed cocktails such as the Lower East Cider and Grand Central Express. The wine list highlights several wines from the region including a Silver Thread Riesling from the Finger Lakes region of New York State.  The beer list includes selections from the nearby Coney Island Brewery.

American Express currently operates Centurion Lounges at over a dozen airports including at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, Miami International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport. The company is planning to open several new lounges including one at London’s Heathrow Airport.
