Movie theaters in New York City will be able to reopen next month, albeit at limited capacities, while those in London will be able to reopen in May.

The move comes almost exactly at the one-year point after theaters closed in the state, namely on March 12, 2020.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the plan on Monday at a news conference.

Starting on March 5, cinemas in the Big Apple can reopen at 25% capacity or a maximum of 50 people, whichever is lower, per screening.

Seating will be in keeping with social-distancing practices and face masks will be required.

Meanwhile, cinemas in London will be allowed to reopen on May 17 under Phase 4 of the reopening plan announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.  Drive-in cinemas will be able to reopen on April 12, as part of Phase 3.
