Southwest Airlines announced it is adding additional training on human trafficking issues for its employees.

The action is intended to create greater recognition of  the issue and is being launched during National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Human trafficking is a crime that involves exploiting a person for labor, services, or commercial sex.

The new curriculum will act as a supplement to the current training program that was established in 2019. It will be offered as a part of the airline’s regular training program for all customer-facing employees.

The updated curriculum covers new methods of identifying a suspected human trafficking as well as the proper procedures to carry out once recognized.
