United Airlines said Tuesday that it was raising over 11 million frequent-flyer program miles for a variety of charities in partnership with its customers using its Miles on a Mission platform.

The Miles on a Mission platform lets MileagePlus members support non-profits in need of air travel by facilitating the donation of members’ miles to specific enrolled charities.

The airline said it is using Giving Tuesday and the forthcoming holiday season to donate miles via the Miles on a Mission platform to help customers donate to charities such as Take Flyte, which arranges trips for high-school students so they can see “the enormity of the world”; Higher Orbits, which allows students to work with astronauts, scientists, and engineers using science, technology, engineering, art, and math; and Luke’s Wings, which provides flights to family members to visit wounded soldiers after an injury.  Other charities on the list include the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and College to Congress.

The carrier will match the first 125,000 miles raised for each charitable organization enrolled in an active campaign.

The Miles on a Mission platform was launched 14 months ago.
