Two days after imposing regional curfews, Greece became the latest European nation to return to a partial national lockdown, as officials try to stem the spread of the coronavirus across the country.

The Greek government will expand the current curfews to be in effect across the entire country. Meanwhile, officials ordered the closure of restaurants, bars, cafes, cinemas, gyms, and museums across the northern part of the country and in the Attica region, which encompasses Athens.

The lockdown goes into effect November 3.  It will remain in effect for one month.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the lockdown addresses two sources “conducive to the spread of the virus: entertainment and the movement of people.”

The prime minister also said that the government would introduce €1.5 billion in support measures for the sectors of the economy that will be impacted by the lockdown.
