Boeing announced the appointment of Jinnah Hosein to the position of vice president of software engineering, a new position.

The appointment is with immediate effect.

Mr. Hosein, the company said, will focus on strengthening the company’s “focus on software engineering across the enterprise and will report to Greg Hyslop, the company’s chief engineer.

“Jinnah will be charged with defining and leading Boeing’s strategy for software engineering, which includes providing capabilities, technologies, processes and secure and accurate systems to meet the needs of all our customers across the entire product life cycle,” said Mr. Hyslop.

Mr. Hosein is a veteran of similar positions at SpaceX, Tesla, and Google.

The creation of the new position comes after the company admitted that software faults and its failure to address them led to the hull losses of two Boeing 737 Max aircraft and the deaths of 346 souls.
