American Airlines announced the release of version 2020.17 of its smartphone app, adding several new features including support for Apple’s new widgets that are found in the new version of its mobile operating system, iOS 14.

The airline’s widgets feature allows a traveler to see his travel information in the widget, which can be placed anywhere on an iPhone’s home screen.

In addition, the airline announced two new technology features not related to the app, mobile ID and an electronic wallet.

The mobile ID, which is being piloted at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, uses a digital ID token available via a third-party app that is then used to verify the passenger’s identity when checking a bag with an agent at the airport.

The mobile ID trial will be expanded to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on October 27.

The second new feature is an electronic wallet which holds flight and trip credits.  The new feature allows travelers to see what travel credits are available when purchasing a flight and then select “flight credit” as a payment option.  The airline’s AAdvantage frequent-flyer program will automatically refund miles to the electronic wallet when the passenger cancels an award ticket purchased with AAdvantage miles.
