EasyJet said it would close its base at London Stansted Airport as of September 1, 2020. It will also close its bases at London Southend and Newcastle airports at that time.

The move will impact as many as 670 pilots.

Johan Lundgren, the airline’s CEO, blamed the move on “the unprecedented impact of the pandemic and related travel restrictions” and said that Britain’s quarantine measures were further impacting demand.

The decision leaves Luton and Gatwick as the closest EasyJet bases for those who previously flew out of Stansted, and Manchester and Liverpool for those who previously used Newcastle.
