Marriott International announced it would offer members of its Bonvoy guest loyalty program a “head start” on earning a higher-level elite status and said it would offer most of its properties at off-peak rates into July.

The move comes as travel continues to plummet amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The hotelier had previously said that members would keep their current status through February 2022.  The program will now offer a jump-start to increase status.

“Given the disruption in your travel plans this year, we will be giving you a head start toward earning status next year by depositing 50% of the Elite Night Credits into your account based on your 2019 earned Elite status tier,” Marriott said in an e-mail to members, adding that “these additional ENCs will jump-start your ability to move quickly to the next Elite tier.”

Marriott will deposit the additional credits in late July.

The Bethesda, Maryland-based company said it would price over 5,500 properties, roughly 80% of its portfolio, at off-peak rates through July 31, 2020. Bookings must be made by June 30, 2020 to obtain these rates.
